New weird (medievalist fantasy)

1)     One of the most notable aspects of the New Weird is its insistent rejection of medievalist fantasy. Explain what medievalist fantasy is and why New Weird writers are so critical of it. Then choose one of our class texts and describe how its setting, plot, characters, and/or monsters represent an alternative to medievalist fantasy. What key differences can you identify in medievalist and New Weird versions of fantasy? In what sense do these differences represent a rejection of medievalist fantasy and its guiding principles within New Weird writing? What sorts of images, ideas, and political perspectives does your chosen text try to introduce into the genre of fantasy, and to what end?
