Health care resilience evaluation report

Assignment: Write a succinct report that evaluates resilience of health care systems to disaster impact. This will reference to the efficacy of one or more forms of health care approach, including relevant science, practice, and policy-based aspects. Health care systems include infrastructures and resources. This can be one case study, or an overall health care approach that you analyse based on multiple examples. Your evaluation should consider the apparent strengths and weaknesses of attempts to uphold health care approach, in a crisis context. You may address this in terms of coping with a single emergency, multiple, cascading, or other designations of hazards, risks, and disasters. The evaluation can therefore be based on rapid or slower onset emergencies in contexts of more and/or less technologically orientated societies. It is recommended to use ideas from across a broad spread of literature and to draw information from similar case examples where there is a gap in sources for the example you are focussed upon. Any health care system may be considered, such as for example, public or privatised, centralised, or decentralised, contemporary, traditional (indigenous), or alternative ways of living. Self-care as an approach may be also applicable to your study. It is suggested that in evaluating you consider the use of themes such as participation, procedures, cost effectiveness, preparedness, capacity building, rights, responsibilities, and political commitment. Alternatives may be identified. Your report should avoid a purely descriptive account of community well-being or health care systems providing an analytical approach. It requires evidence of your attempting to evaluate how health care system approach is suitability effective. Note that the term ‘community’ can be a contested one, particularly if there are overly simplistic assumptions about how groups of people can be identified. People living within the same area, which may be referred to as a ‘community’ might not necessarily know or cooperate with each other in the manner the term implies – communities, real or artificially represented may also be virtual, scattered, forced or otherwise. The aims of this assignment are: To develop understanding of how critical events, considered to be disasters, impact on health care systems, the resiliency of groups of people or the fitness for purpose of the health care system using a disaster reduction and/or development emphasis. To evaluate core themes that are important in the way health care systems deal with health issues in emergency contexts and/or other chronic health challenges that may be rapid or slow onset. A good answer will exhibit the following characteristics: A clear representation of the impact of disaster on health care system and/or how the characteristics of this health care system can be resilient to disaster (35%). Clearly examined themes orientated to evaluation of the appropriateness of health care systems in dealing with health in emergencies or other health crises (45%). Use of relevant journal articles (additional other sources also welcome) and specific reference to case study material (10%). Norms of report layout – i.e. the report should use numbered subheading throughout and include up to a half page of summary text at the start (10%).
