Characterize the “species” of Americans they encounter

Read: Sarah Kemble Knight, from The Private Journal… Margaret Fuller, from Things and Thoughts in Europe Fuller and Knight’s travelogues provide accounts of early 18th-century America as well as a kind of ethnography (look up that word if you don’t know it). How does each author characterize the “species” of Americans they encounter? Why do you think they portray these people in this way? And do you think either author is commenting on larger social issues at the time? Explain.
